League of Extraordinary Jester-Men

Posted on 28 Jul 2010 at 2:55pm

Well, well, well! Terrell Owens finally got a job, 2 days before NFL training Camp starts. The Cincinnati Bengals signed T.O. to a one year, two million dollar contract (less than half of what he was asking for at the beginning of free agency). Why the Bengals didn’t sign Owens four months ago when he first visited, leaves room for speculation.

From the beginning I’ve always thought they should’ve signed healthy, proven producer Owens over Bryant who was coming off a knee injury. No bias in regard to either player, TO just seems like the smart choice from a winning standpoint. As I said back in March they both have “attitude problems so why not take the healthy player. Turns out Bryant may be on his way to the PUP list.

All I can say is that if Marvin Lewis hasn’t earned his check any other season he certainly will this year. As a matter of fact, from now on I will be referring to him as Joe Clark. The 2010 Bengals squad this year has me wondering if they should change the name of Paul Brown Stadium to fair Eastside High. If Marvin Lewis, Chad Ochocinco, Terrell Owens, Antonio Bryant, Tank Johnson, Cedric Benson, Adam Jones, and Frostee Rucker don’t sound like a great cast for the NFL remake of Lean on Me then I don’t know who does.

With Chad Ochocinco , Dhani Jones, Owens  and the rest of that cast of characters on the roster, I’m not sure if I want to see the Bengals play football or tape a reality show this season. The reality show MIGHT be more entertaining. Hard Knocks came a season too early.

Lewis seems to do a great job with all of his players, and from what I’ve seen and heard they respect him a great deal. He is one of the few coaches out there willing to give guys a fair shot, I hope they recognize and appreciate that.

I hope Marvin can keep the boys in line, otherwise his team meetings may go a little something like this.

The Bad Boys of Vh1 Have Gotten Their Wish…T.O. (Terrell Owens) is a Cincinnati Bengal

ESPN is reporting the Terrell Owens (former San Francisco 49er, Philadelphia Eagle, Dallas Cowboy and Buffalo Bill) has now agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals.

ESPN

Terrell Owens has agreed on a one-year, $2 million deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

According to the source, the deal also includes another $2 million in incentives.

Owens spent last season with the Buffalo Bills. He caught 55 passes for 829 yards and hauled in five touchdowns as the Bills finished the season 6-10.

The St. Louis Rams dropped out of the bidding for Owens on Monday and a source told Schefter earlier Tuesday the New York Jets expressed interest in the 36-year old wide receiver.

Owens was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round in 1996 out of the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. He has split his 14-year career between San Francisco, the Philadelphia EaglesDallas Cowboys and Buffalo.

Chad Ocho Cinco In Trouble With Black Women…Already?

Posted on 03 Jun 2010 at 10:15am

So it took absolutely no time for Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson to find himself in hot water with black women.  Disclaimer: I have no feelings about the situation one way or another.  We’ve been down this route before, this story has been told, beaten, killed, revived and killed again and the result is the same.  Reality tv dating shows are trouble…especially for black women.

With nearly an entire house full of black women, Flava Flav’s “The Flavor of Love” series showed black women in large numbers doing awful things single-handedly set us back 100 years.  Both Real and Chance from the “Real Chance of Love” showcased a healthy mix but leaned more towards other races as did Ray J’s “For the Love of Ray J” who both showed all three men picking women of other races.  So why is everyone acting surprised and more importantly upset over this?

It seems Chad has basically had his proverbial rite of passage of sorts for the recent criticism over his choice in women and his quick elimination of many black women.  But has Chad done anything wrong or is this much ado about nothing and another opportunity to pick the entire show apart.

The YBF posted letters from both a former contestant and an employee who dished on the happenings behind the cameras of Chad OchoCinco’s “The Tournament”, read below.

I am an avid reader of YBF and was recently selected as one of the final 85 for Chad’s (OchoCinco) dating reality show. Long story short, Chad has identity issues and primarily chose Latinas and white girls (mostly brunette’s). Many of the black girls were eliminated right off the back (including Rabbit from Real Chance of Love)<– might I add Cali made a cameo as well. I managed to make top 30 before getting eliminated.

The entire day was unorganized and Chad only wanted to do things his way; he wouldn’t listen to producers and all selections were made by him only. In the beginning Chad walked the field and immediately began to dismiss girls, he later called a group of ten girls (including myself) up to the front and told us to “not worry you’re not going anywhere..” Shortly after he directed us to do a quick warm up lap (at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA). This warm up lap turned into chaos, lap after lap producer’s were unsure of what to do next so they directed girls to keep running. Luckily, I stay with a personal trainer, so I ran a total of 6 laps before I stopped for water. Some girls began to hyperventalate, while others began to walk. One by one, Chad starting pulling black girls aside and telling them “bye.” During my stop for a cup of water, Chad called me over along with a group of six girls; 5 black and 1 white. He then said “umm… you guys are eliminated… uh.. yea–yea eliminated–Except for you.” And guess who he pulled out the group? The white girl.

Long story short, Chad is intimidated by a successful black woman. And this so-called competition definitely wasn’t based off of looks or class. **I’m Just Sayin**

Just wanted to give you the scoop.

P.S. I am a YBF chick of Carribean decent.

From an employee below:

Hey Theybf- I’m a big fan of yours!!! I wanted to give you the inside scoop from Chad Ochocinco’s new reality show the “Ultimate Catch”. Long story short…i’m employed by the company that is producing the reality show. The show just started filming yesterday.

Now, when you watch the show it’s going to appear as if he had to narrow down 84 girls to 17! In reality 17 girls were pre-selected by the producers and flown to LA a week prior to do interviews and photo shoots for the show. The other 67 girls on set were extras filling in.

When Chad arrived on set yesterday, he saw a mixed variety of nationalities that the producers had already pre-selected…five black girls, 5 spanish girls, 6 white girls, and a girl of middle eastern decent. He seemed rather upset and acted irritated. The producer felt that that he was unhappy and after talking to them off air, Chad wanted to revise the list of the pre-selected girls. He wanted to send home all of the Black girls and replace them with some of the Caucasian and Hispanic girls who were actually extras on set.

After not having picked any Black girls to remain on the show the producers pressured him into picking at least two. Chad, in turn, chooses the two most GHETTO girls there to represent the us. And by ghetto…you know the ones cause black men to say that’s the reason they don’t date black women anymore.

It’s really sad to see a man who has entirely black family, including beautiful black children would have such low regard for black women.  I’ve heard stories about his preference in the past but never in a million year would I think he would make it that obvious, especially knowing that his tv show is not exactly catering to the white folks…

Seems like much of the same and I know that’s harsh but since folks are talking about it…what say you citXIns of XI?  Weight in…

Cincinnati Bengal’s star wide receiver Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson is using his off-season to ‘play the field’ in his new VH1 reality show.

Ocho Cinco is one of the most electrifying individuals in sports today. His larger than life personality, on and off the field, have been well documented and so far he’s been able to tackle everything thrown his way… except when it comes to love…

Do you have what it takes to win Chad’s heart?

Females. Must be over 21. VH1 is looking for single, beautiful women who think they have what it takes to win the heart of one of football’s most electrifying bachelors. Can you handle the pressure of dating one of the NFL’s most popular players and all that comes with it?

Details on the show…

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Chad Ocho Cinco (formerly Chad Johnson) is using his off-season to pursue happiness off the field in his new VH1 reality show “The Tournament” (working title). The series is a mix of Ocho Cinco’s on-field charisma blended with the drama of the dating pool played out in a bracket-style dating tournament. The 10 episode, one-hour series is set to premiere in July 2010.

One of the NFL’s brightest stars, 32-year-old Ocho Cinco has been selected to the Pro Bowl six times and named an All-Pro three times. He legally changed his surname from Johnson to Ocho Cinco prior to the 2008 regular season to reflect the number 85 on his Bengals uniform. In the 2009 season, Ocho Cinco caught 72 passes for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns. An avid user of social networks, Ocho Cinco has close to one million followers on Twitter and hundreds of thousands of fans on Facebook.

“The Tournament” will start with Ocho Cinco finding his “first 85″ by traveling all over the country meeting women that may be interested in dating him. Then, during the first episode, he will narrow the playing field down to the sweet sixteen – four women from each of the four regions of the country – Northern, Western, Southern and Central Divisions. The sixteen chosen women will be invited to join Ocho Cinco for the rest of the tournament-style dating competition.

Once the competition begins, Ocho Cinco will follow a tournament bracket where each of the ladies will have an opportunity to spend quality time with him while also facing off against one another in double-dates. The winner of each dating face-off will receive a game ball from Ocho Cinco and move on to the next round of the tournament, while the loser goes home. Ultimately the sweet sixteen will be narrowed down to eight and then the final four. In the end, the championship date between the two remaining women will result in Ocho Cinco awarding his chosen love the coveted Championship Ring. Hopefully, she turns out to be his greatest catch this season!

Chad is officially crossing the “I so don’t take you seriously anymore” line.  The naked running, DWTS, the app which I actually purchased, OCNN, I mean it’s all cleaver but it’s a bit much.  But oh well, guess you gotta do what you gotta do so…

I WILL be watching, so congrats to all of the lucky ladies and may he find love.

The Ocho To Be On DWTS

Posted on 01 Mar 2010 at 3:54pm

TMZ is reporting that NFL star Chad Ochocinco is known for his prolific end zone dances — but now he’ll be dancing …. with the stars.

Multiple sources tell TMZ the outspoken Cincinnati Bengal will be part of the cast of “Dancing with the Stars” this coming season.

Ochocinco joins a list of NFL stars who have done the show including Warren Sapp, Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice.

A rep for ABC would not comment on potential cast members … but did a great job of reminding us the official announcement comes tonight during the season finale of “The Bachelor.”

Top NFL Matchups For Week 10

Posted on 15 Nov 2009 at 1:56pm

The Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints are still unbeaten and both teams have perfectly executed their mission so far this season, as their playoff hopes are all but locked for the year. Both teams are sitting at 8-0 heading into week 10 with completely different teams threatening their perfect seasons. For the Saints they face a St. Louis Rams team that on paper doesn’t look to put their record in any real danger. However, the Colts aren’t as lucky as they face off with their AFC rival the New England Patriots, that can not only hand them their first loss but is a team who is also clearing a path of their own this season. For the rest however, it will be another week of November football and some interesting matchups. Who’s Number 1: Cincinnati Bengals (6-2) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) Last week the Bengals swept the Baltimore Ravens in the division series, which not many people saw coming. Then again, the Ravens haven’t really looked like the Ravens team that started out 3-0 on the year. This week the Bengals will be tested once again when they face the Steelers who are riding a five game win streak in a battle for number one in the AFC North. Both the Steelers and Bengals are playing great run defense holding the number one (Steelers) and two (Bengals) spots in the league. So the spotlight in this game will be placed on the quarterbacks. Ben Roethlisberger, has been great in the last four games with nine touchdowns and only three interceptions with a QB rating of 111.2. Carson Palmer is putting together some impressive wins as well, but he’ll need to have a better day against the Steelers defense than he did in week 3 despite their win. Palmer was 20 of 37 for 187 yards a touchdown. Identity Crisis: Philadelphia Eagles (5-3) @ San Diego Chargers (5-3) With the win against the New York Giants in week 9 in the final seconds of the game, the Chargers are once again setting themselves up for their yearly mid-season push for the division title. With the Denver Broncos having lost two consecutive games to AFC north opponents, and may have very well reached their plateau on the year, the Chargers are poised to overtake them for the lead. For the Chargers it’s much of the same from a team that shouldn’t be in danger of coming in second in the AFC west they’ll look to orchestrate back to back wins against NFC east teams on Sunday. The Eagles are in a similar position with the win-lose streak they’re on this season. Since losing to the Raiders in week 7, they’ve beaten the Giants in week 8, only to lose last week to the Cowboys falling to second in the division. Still in the drivers seat of their season however, they’ll need to establish some consistency if they want to be a serious contender in the wild card push. And one still has to wonder just when, if ever they’ll utilize Michael Vick impatiently waiting in the wings, ready to restore order for the Eagles if needed. Role Reversal: New England Patriots (6-2) @ Indianapolis Colts (8-0) The NFL is a funny place as things can swing from big success for a team to disappointing failure one season to the next. The Patriots are used to big success, but last season they had a disappointing blow, losing quarterback Tom Brady to a season ending knee injury. This season the Patriots look to resume their dominance of the AFC over the past decade with another successful season. Standing in their way is an overachieving Indianapolis Colts team, who are also used to greatness, but this season seem to have the edge over New England in AFC supremacy. At 8-0 it’ll be New England’s turn to play spoiler and bring down the AFC’s new “Goliath”, the Indianapolis Colts. In the last three games the Patriots have outscored their opponents 121-24, which started with a rout against the Titans 59-0 in week 7. The Colts have taken blows to their defense losing safety Bob Sanders and cornerback Marlin Jackson for the season to injuries. But Manning is still Manning so it’ll be another classic matchup of Tom vs. Peyton. Creating Separation: Dallas Cowboys (6-2) @ Green Bay Packers (4-4) The Cowboys are in position to create separation in the NFC east this week with a win over the Packers. Currently, they sit atop the division and a win over a hapless Green Bay team would prove beneficial to them on their quest for their first division title since the 2007 season. Quarterback Tony Romo and the Cowboys defense are playing as good as it gets and another win would make it their fifth in a row. On the other hand the Packers are coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road, capping an up and down season where at times they’ve looked legitimate and others completely inept. Quarterback Aaron Rogers needs to find better chemistry with his receiving corp. and the defense needs more consistency. Games of Interest There’s nothing compelling at first glance at either of these matchups, but looking deeper there is something to be said for the teams involved so let’s take a look. Redemption: Denver Broncos (6-2) vs. Washington Redskins (2-6) The Redskins have lost four consecutive games and are averaging 14 points a game. So far this season they haven’t scored 20 or more points in a single game and have a total of 113 points on the season. What’s perplexing about the Skins however, is their ability to be better but their failure to do so. With players like running backs Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts and wide receiver Santana Moss all capable of turning things around at any moment, I’m looking for the Redskins to return from their bye week with something to prove. They’ll face a Denver Broncos’ team that has lost two straight games and are looking to get back to their winning ways. On Monday night I witnessed the complete collapse of a team in the second half that had all but dominated the Steelers during the first half. The Broncos were completely incapable of readjusting to the Steelers approach for the second half. If the Broncos are unable to get back on track, the questions will begin of how legitimate they were in the first place when they leaped out to their 6-0 record. Vince Young is Perfect: Tennessee Titans (2-6) vs. Buffalo Bills (3-5) Two games after debuting as the starter for the Titans “the sequel”, Vince Young is 2-0 and has this team rallying around its new leader. The Titans started the year off at 0-6 after going 13-3 a season ago, which created the sudden urgency to replace Collins with Young from ownership. So what happened? We know Vince Young isn’t that good, but he does seem to be the spark the team needed and has helped right the shit for the time being. But what everyone wants to know is how long will it last? And can Young continue with his successful campaign for saving the Titans. For now it’s exciting seeing the franchise back in action willing his team back from the dead.

The NFL’s Crucial Catch

Posted on 08 Oct 2009 at 9:47am

October is national breast cancer awareness month and the National Football League is showing its support. “A Crucial Catch,” is the NFL’s campaign that expresses the importance of annual screenings. Three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, Larry Fitzgerald and Tanya Snyder, wife of Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, are national spokespersons for the campaign. Each one of them has a personal connection to this cause. Fitzgerald lost his mother in 2003 from a brain hemorrhage, she was being treated for breast cancer at the time. Snyder has been battling the disease since she was diagnosed last year. While Fitzgerald and Snyder are the faces of the campaign, they are not the only ones in the league who have been affected by the disease. I’m sure that many are aware of Minnesota Vikings quarterback, Brett Favre’s wife Deanna’s, battle with the disease dating back to 2004. Beginning on October 4, and throughout the entire month, NFL players will don pink equipment such as gloves, cleats, wristbands and more. Coaches on the sidelines will sport pink hats and pink ribbon pins. Referees will also go pink, wearing pink armbands and hats. Pink ribbon stencils will adorn the field, and “A Crucial Catch” banners will line the walls around the field. The goal post padding in the end zone will be pink as well as the coins used for the toss at the start of the game. Perhaps one of the most touching aspects is the positive reception of the entire league and its players. Players have been quite receptive to the sudden touch of “femininity”. On his Twitter page Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, as always, decided to take things a bit further:

“I’ll be wearing all pink gloves, shoes and wrist bands in support of breast cancer awareness throughout the Month of October. Oh and as for getting fined I probably will because my entire shoe is pink, gloves are all pink and wrist bands I’ll match the fine n donate. NFL is supporting the pink<_ I went a step further by having everything pink I’m wearing, mouth piece and chin strap too.”

New Orleans Saints running back, Reggie Bush, also took to his Twitter page for opinions. Bush posted pictures of his black and pink cleats and gloves. All apparel worn or used during games will be autographed and then auctioned off at NFL Auction, with the proceeds going to the league’s partner, the American Cancer Association and team charities. Pink merchandise will be available at the league’s website with a share of the proceeds being distributed to breast cancer charities. In addition, the NFL Referee’s Association will donate a portion of their game day pay to various breast cancer charities. The response and overall support of the male dominated NFL towards a “woman’s disease,” even though men can also contract the disease, is truly heartwarming. One thing’s for sure, the NFL’s efforts take the saying, “real men wear pink,” to a whole new level. For more information about A Crucial Catch or Breast Cancer in general check out these sites:
